In our previous post about chemical peels, we revealed the basics of chemical peels. There are a few safe options for chemical peels at home. If you google “at-home chemical peel,” there are tons of suggestions and vendors. BE CAREFUL! As Dr. Rosenberger has said before, chemical peels are not for sissies. If done incorrectly, they not only hurt, but they can cause discoloration and scarring if overdone and waste your money if underdone.
Dr. Obagi and ZO Skin Health have offered safe peeling solutions for over 30 years. Trust the name that dermatologists trust. So, if you want a rejuvenating procedure at a reasonable cost, we recommend using this brand.
As with any peel, we always recommend adjusting to the daily use of a retinoid and a zinc and/or titanium sunscreen for 4-6 weeks before attempting an at-home peel. The ZO Radical Night Repair contains 1% retinol as the peeling agent. The patient modulates the at-home peel to their tolerance and desired results. I recommend starting with the MILD PEEL with five pumps for three days. If it’s well-tolerated, increase to the MEDIUM PEEL with eight pumps for five days. Attempt the STRONG PEEL with caution.
These peels are contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women, those on isotretinoin, and those with active cold sores. Those with a strong history of cold sores should take antiviral peels to prevent a cold sore breakout during the peel.
We recommend using ZO Daily Power Defense, ZO Gentle Cleanser, and the ZO Hydrating Creme in addition to the ZO Radical Night Repair. You will need A Zinc-Based Sunscreen as well. The total cost for a ZO package, including all four of the ZO products, is $471. Most of these products will last four months used before and after the peel or for repeated peels. Overall, this is an economical option that can be done at the patient’s discretion to achieve some great results. You can purchase these items at the online ZO Skin Health Store.
