{"id":5199,"date":"2020-06-18T16:12:51","date_gmt":"2020-06-18T16:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wvderm.com\/?p=5199"},"modified":"2020-09-23T17:20:02","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T17:20:02","slug":"fitzpatrick-skin-type","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wvderm.com\/fitzpatrick-skin-type\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitzpatrick Skin Type"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">What&#8217;s Yours?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>And who is Fitzpatrick anyway?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fitzpatrick is one of the most famous names in dermatology.&nbsp; When I was a resident, a two-volume&nbsp;2000 page&nbsp;book he wrote was considered the ultimate dermatology textbook and reference.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;One of his many contributions to dermatology included the \u201cFitzpatrick skin type.\u201d&nbsp; This skin typing system is still widely used by dermatologists to describe skin and to develop skincare regimens that take skin type into account.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fitzpatrick skin type broadly refers to the pigmentation of the skin.&nbsp; There are six types, types 1-6.&nbsp;&nbsp;Similar to&nbsp;how a gardener refers to Zones when determining what to plant and when dermatologists use Fitzpatrick Skin Type to guide treatment options and recommendations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Type 1<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;I\u2019m&nbsp;a type 1.&nbsp; Fair skin, freckle easily, blonde, red or brunette, light-colored eyes.&nbsp; Burns easily and never tans.&nbsp; Wounds are often slower to heal and look pink for a long time prior to healing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Type 2<\/strong>&nbsp;-Fairer skin.&nbsp; Light eyes.&nbsp; Lighter hair, not dark brown or black.&nbsp; Usually burns but tans rarely.
