Jeuveau

Newtox

The name BOTOX is like BANDAIDS. I tend to call all adhesive bandages “BANDAIDS” even if they are another brand. BOTOX is similar. Being the first to market and the leading brand for 15 years has its marketing advantages. This month we are trying out Jeuveau/NEWTOX in the office for the first time, but I still refer to this whole group of products as “BOTOX.”

The name BOTOX is an abbreviation for botulinum toxin. There are several types of botulinum toxin, types A-H. Botulinum toxin A is used to cosmetically to improve the appearance of lines by reducing muscle movement. In addition to the BOTOX brand, there also is DYSPORT and XEOMIN. Dr. Rosenberger was trained at the National BOTOX Training Center to inject BOTOX way back in 2004 and has primarily injected BOTOX over 10,000 times since arriving in Fairmont in 2005. Wow! We added XEOMIN as an alternative to BOTOX in 2010, but most of our patients still prefer BOTOX. In February 2019, the FDA approved Jeuveau, a Korean BOTOX-like product manufactured by Daewoong in South Korea and marketed in the US by Evolus. Since Jeuveau is hard to spell, the marketing company quickly nicknamed this product NEWTOX.

How is Jeuveau/NEWTOX different from BOTOX? The molecule is slightly different, and in manufacturing, it undergoes a special purification process. It is vacuum dried to avoid denaturation of the botulinum toxin.

Is there any difference in efficacy between Jeuveau/NEWTOX and BOTOX? Clinical studies indicate that Jeuveau/NEWTOX is NOT INFERIOR to BOTOX. There is not enough data yet to say it is better clinically in any way.

Should I switch to Jeuveau/NEWTOX? If you are happy with BOTOX and you are enrolled in Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions rewards program, no because you will still have bigger savings with BOTOX. If you always want to try the new latest and greatest product, then ask to try Jeuveau/NEWTOX at your next appointment.

We recently injected some of our staff with Jeuveau. Check us out on our Facebook page and our YouTube channel.
