Does a GLP-1 affect BOTOX?
In my office and for me personally, patients love BOTOX. Many people are hesitant at first to put a “toxin” in their skin. But once they try it they are usually hooked. No other anti-aging procedure offers the highest satisfaction rate. For over 20 years, Dr Rosenberger has been injecting patients with BOTOX, plus she’s had it herself for those 20 years.
Interfering with BOTOX efficacy is serious business. So when I heard this rumor that GLP-1s limited BOTOX efficacy I was curious. Really? How? I hope not!
What is BOTOX? BOTOX is a namebrand that generically refers to a group of injectables called botulinum toxins. BOTOX is injected with the purpose of relaxing muscles in the face and thus reducing lines that develop from movement in areas like the frown lines, crows feet and much more.
What is a GLP-1? Ozempic was the first and the most well-known of a type of medication called GLP-1 (Glucagon Like Peptide) analogs. They work to control blood sugar and slow down gastric emptying so you feel fuller. These drugs are used by medical professionals to treat diabetes and obesity, but are also available on every street corner spa. Their widespread use has led to widespread weight loss which can have a negative impact on the skin and the structure of the face.
So, do GLP-1s really limit the efficacy of BOTOX? And how? And where did this rumor come from?
Social media of course.
