Back to School Book Drive for Marion County Literacy Volunteers
If there is one thing that I love, it’s books. I have a lot. WAY TO MANY. Cookbooks, gardening books, travel books, fiction books, Christian devotionals, self help books, and my latest love -biographies. That’s not even beginning to talk about kids’ books. Probably the only class of books I don’t love is anything scary or gory. If you’re at all like me, you have some extra books lying around. Here’s our chance to share the wealth.
As part of our 20 year celebration, we have been highlighting and partnering with great organizations in our area who are doing some great work. I was asked by one of their volunteers to host a book drive, and I’m happy to help.
Literacy Volunteers of Marion County offers a variety of FREE services.
-Tutoring services for Adults and Children
-English as a Second Language Learning ( 3rd Grade through Adult)
-Tutoring at High School level for Reading, Writing and Math.
-Reading at Head Start Classrooms
They could always use some volunteers to help with tutoring, fundraising, office work, or reading to preschool students. Book donations are essential. Last year they were able to give away over 800 books to those who were in need of reading resources.
We will be focusing on collecting books during the month of September, but will be happy to continue to collect them on a regular basis. Just bring them into the office and one of their volunteers will pick them up. Easy as that. Books can be new or lightly used. Books for both adults and children will be accepted.
