What is a TeleVisit?
A TeleVisit is a visit performed with a provider by video calls rather than in-person.
When will a TeleVisit be a good option?
We can now see NEW and ESTABLISHED patients on a TeleVisit. TeleVisits are best for a new rash or a follow-up. They are also appropriate for acne and rosacea. They are not a good option for evaluating a lesion to determine if it is cancerous. Choosing a TeleVisit is a matter of convenience. The visit can be conducted from any location without the need to come to the doctor’s office. This allows the patient to save travel time and avoid time lost by taking off from work or school. We are currently using them when we can to keep people separated during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Does Medicare cover a TeleVisit?
Medicare DOES cover, but with a Medicare Advantage plan, there will still be a copay. Just as in a regular visit, Medicare pays the first 80%, the coinsurance pays the remaining 20%. If a patient does not have a coinsurance, they will need to pay the 20% just as with a regular visit.
Does Private Insurance cover TeleVisits?
Private insurers may or may not cover. We will attempt to bill all insurers. If it is NOT a covered service, and insurance does not cover it at all, it is a $75 charge. If it goes to your deductible, it is the same as if we see you in the office.
A receipt can be provided for potential reimbursement or HSA usage , which is the patient’s responsibility.
What if, after my TeleVisit, it is determined that I still need to come into the office?
There is no fee for the TeleVisit if you come in within 24 hours. In that case, there is only a charge for the office visit. If you come in after 24 hours, there is a separate charge for the in-office visit and the TeleVisit.
How do I schedule a TeleVisit?
Contact the office and ask to schedule a TeleVisit, or book here.
How do I join a TeleVisit?
On your smartphone or computer: click on the text or email link you received from your doctor’s office. No login required. Or you can start the visit by logging into the Healow app or your Patient Portal.
What do I do when it’s time for my TeleVisit appointment?
- Set up in a secure and private location for your appointment.
- “Arrive early” by logging into the Healow app, Patient Portal, or clicking the link within the email reminder or text message your doctor’s office sent you.
- Fill out any patient questionnaires and vitals if applicable (answers are not mandatory on either form, but fill in what you can).
- Click “Proceed” to check your computer’s speed and ability to support a TeleVisit.
- Click “Start TeleVisit” to enter the virtual waiting room.
- Your physician will join the face-to-face TeleVisit and disconnect when it ends.
We have limited windows for televisits but may expand those during COVID-19.
These are trying times, and we all have been learning how to do things in new ways. Try a televisit!
